Hello again! Beautiful weather today! It's hard not to stare out the window all day when it's snowing.

From January 22

I've been here for a while now, and I've written many blog posts. Maybe I've talked about this before...so if I repeat myself, I apologize!

Many times, people ask me, 'Josh, why do you like snow so much?' And then they go on to tell me all of the bad things about it. There ARE bad things about it, sure. I worry about my friends and family getting home safely. It can be dangerous to drive if you (or other drivers) aren't careful. Trains can be delayed, and plans can be ruined.

But still I love it. And here's why.

1) Sometimes, the changes in plans are good! I come from a very rural city, smaller and far more spread out than Matsumoto. We only got a decent snow once every two years or so. But every time it snowed, school would be cancelled almost immediately. If we were at school? We were sent home. If we were still at home, we'd watch the news, hoping that our school's name would be announced. Snow = no school, sometimes for 2 or 3 days!

2) It's beautiful. OK, maybe it's hard to see the beauty when you think of the dirty slush on the side of the road, or the piles of snow you have to shovel from in front of your house. But we didn't have to shovel snow where I lived. Instead, there were large fields of pure white, and pine trees with their evergreen needles laced with snow.

3) It's quiet. Have you ever taken a walk after a good snowfall? The way snow muffles sound creates a soft, relaxed atmosphere.

4) Snow cream! Wait, you don't know what snow cream is? Oh man. Where I grew up, it was a rare treat, as you need a good 3-4 inches of snow (8-10 com) to make it without worrying about scooping up some dirt. But yeah, go outside during or after a good snowfall, scoop up a bunch of fresh, clean snow into a bowl, and mix with a lot of sweetened, condensed milk. Snow cream! It's delicious!

Seriously though, everybody be careful out there tonight. But, we can't control the weather. Don't let things you can't control ruin your day...instead, look for the good in them.
